From November 7th to 10th Ece Alat and Brendan Ensor attended the NuMat 2016 Conference in Montpellier, France. Ensor gave a presentation on "The Role of Hydrogen in Zirconium Alloy Corrosion". Alat presented her poster titled "Effect of Substrate Surface Preparation on Corrosion Performance of Multilayer (TiN, TiAlN) Coatings" and Ensor presented his poster titled "Use of 3D Laue Spectroscopy to Study Oxide Induced Strains and Stresses in Zircaloy-4". Additionally, Chris Ulmer and Prof. Motta's provided a presentation titled "Characterization of alloy 800H irradiated by neutrons and ions to 16.6 dpa". All posters and presentations were well received and elicited a lot of discussion and new ideas. Ece also participated in the NuMART contest with her image of fibers forming on the TiN/TiAlN coatings she has researched. Many Penn State Nuclear Material Group alumni were in attendance include Dr. Colas, Prof. Couet, Prof. Kaoumi, and Dr. Bischoff. Conference attendees enjoyed the south of France and the excellent food and wine of the region.
