Learning Factory Student
Project Showcase Winners
Engineering
students displayed their projects at the Learning
Factory Student Project Showcase on Thursday, May
1, 2008, at the HUB's Alumni Hall. The project showcase
is organized by the Learning
Factory, a multidisciplinary learning environment
that integrates engineering theory with practice
and promotes team-oriented problem-solving skills.
Project sponsors include:
Anheuser-Busch, Boeing, Dow Chemical, Colin Darney,
Harris Corporation, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection, Shell, Institute for Diabetes and Obesity,
Lampire Bio Labs, Flowserve Corp., Dresser-Rand, Flinchbaugh-Kurtz,
Continental Disc, Carbon Trap Technologies, Air Products,
Armstrong World Industries, BAE Systems, B. Braun Medical,
Skills of Pennsylvania and Measurement Specialties.
Examples of this year's
projects include: a brewery wastewater treatment, a
working model of carbon sequestration pilot plant,
a magnetically driven boiler water circulation pump
and an eco-marathon car.
The Learning Factory is
an industry-university partnership that provides engineering
students hands-on laboratory experience to design and
manufacture solutions for real-world problems. Since
1995, more than 500 sponsored projects have been completed
for 140 companies. The Learning Factory received the
National Academy of Engineering?s Bernard M. Gordon
Prize in 2006 for innovation in engineering education.
